Death Note Characters

(Light) YagamiLight is a high school honors student who finds the Death Note dropped by Ryuk. Light shows a kind and cool personality to his friends and family, but inside he is very egotistical and cynical. Using the power of the Death Note, Light wants to create an utopian world free of crime and murder. Ironically, he has no qualms about killing other people in order to fulfill his goals. The public and media have began calling Light "Kira", some even claim Kira is a savior. All the publicity only serves to boost Light's ego. He even proclaimed he would become the new God of the world.  RyukRyuk is a Shinigami (Death God) who came to the human realm because he was bored. He owns the Death Note which is currently in Light's possession. He has revealed that he wanted a human to find it in order to see what entertaining things would happen. Ryuk also has a second Death Note which he cheated the Lord of the Shinigami world into giving him. Ryuk loves to eat red apples, to him they are like cigarettes. If he doesn't eat one for a long time, his body goes into withdrawal and bends out of shape.  LL is a mysterious young man who is around the same age as Light. He has solved numerous mysterious around the world, but nobody except his confidant, Watari, knows how to contact him or even what he looks like. L has taken up the case to find who Kira is and has publically challenged Light. L has an intelligence to rival Light's own and was able to hypothesis that Kira can't kill people unless he knows their face and real name.  Misa AmaneMisa is a popular model and pop idol in Japan, but is quite immature and childish. Misa's parents were murdered when she was young. As Kira, Light killed the murderer of Misa's parents as one of the many prisoners he targeted. As a result, Misa is completely devoted to Light and will do anything, including giving up her own life, to gain his affection. She obtained her own Death Note from the Shinigami named Rem. Furthermore, she obtained the 'Shinigami Eyes' at the cost of half her remaining life.  RemRem is a female Shinigami who gave Misa her Death Note. Like Ryuk, Rem has two Death Notes; she obtained the second one from a Shinigami named Jealous who gave up his own life to save Misa from a deadlys stalker. For some unknown reason, Rem gained Jealous's obsession towards Misa and she too becomes devoted in protecting her. When Rem realized Light's intentions of using Misa as a toll, she vowed to kill him if Misa dies before her time. |
